Police probing Orkney rape reports make two arrests

One incident was reported at public toilets in Kirkwall

Police in Orkney investigating two reports of rape over County Show weekend have made two arrests.

Officers launched inquiries in Kirkwall after two women reported attacks.

The toilets at St Magnus Lane off Broad Street were closed after an incident on Saturday. An 18-year-old man has now been arrested

A separate incident at Muddisdale in Kirkwall early on Sunday is also being investigated. A 16-year-old male has been arrested.

Police Scotland said both have been released pending further investigation.

The incidents are not being linked.

Insp David Hall said: "We understand the concern both these reported incidents have caused to the local community and I want to offer reassurance that following these two arrests our extensive inquiries are continuing.
