A man has been jailed for 12 years for a murder attempt which left his victim with a life-threatening brain injury.

Sandy Mundie attacked Jamie Wood in what a judge described as "a brutal manner" outside a flat in Aberdeen's Greig Court on 6 December 2021.

He punched Mr Wood to the ground before stamping on his face and head.

The High Court in Aberdeen heard that the victim remained unconscious in hospital for nearly a month and now uses a wheelchair.

Mr Wood was not able to breathe unaided until 1 January 2022 and required therapy to help him speak and walk again.

The court heard that his recovery is still ongoing.

In his own evidence, Mundie said he had been involved in a drug deal at the flat when Mr Wood arrived.

He denied carrying out the attack but was found guilty after a trial.

Judge Miller told Mundie his 12-year prison sentence would be followed by two years on licence in the community.
