Legionella was found at Peterhead Community Hospital

An Aberdeenshire hospital ward which closed nine months ago after Legionella was found is set to reopen next month.

The in-patient Summers Ward at Peterhead Community hospital was closed after Legionella was found in the water supply in February.

Patients were relocated to an unused ward at Fraserburgh Hospital, 17 miles away.

Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) said the ward would reopen on 18 December.

"I am delighted by the news that Summers Ward will be returning home to Peterhead Community Hospital," said Jeff Shaw, partnership manager for North Aberdeenshire.

"It has been made possible thanks to the diligent work of a great many individuals, who have pulled together in a bid to make the site as safe as possible for both patients and staff."

He added: "I am sure the news will be welcomed by many, and we now hope to make a gradual return to normal."

"Finally, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our colleagues at Fraserburgh Community Hospital, for their ongoing support during the entire process."
