Police have named two men who were killed in a three-vehicle crash near Maryculter in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the B9077 South Deeside Road at about 15:00 on Saturday.

Both 23-year-old Cameron Pearson, from Aboyne, and 32-year-old Asad Saghir, from Stockton-On-Tees, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for about nine hours to allow Police Scotland to conduct investigations.

The crash involved a Volkswagen golf, a Skoda Kamiq and an Audi Q5.

The Scottish Ambulance service said another person was taken to hospital and others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police officers, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance teams were dispatched to the crash site near the Maryculter House Hotel.

The Scottish Ambulance service said it sent multiple ambulances, a special operations response team and a trauma team.

Mr Pearson's family said: "Our beloved son, Cameron Pearson, sadly passed away on Saturday following a car accident."

Mr Saghir's family have not provided a statement.

Road policing sergeant Pete Henderson said: "Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of Mr Pearson and Mr Saghir at this time.

"They have asked that their privacy be respected at this time and we will continue to support them as our inquiries progress."
