Marcus Beck was killed in the crash on Monday evening

Police investigating a crash involving an electric motorbike which left two teenagers dead have revealed it was filmed before the fatal collision.

Marcus Beck, 17, died at the scene on the A941 Elgin to Lossiemouth road on Monday evening.

A 16-year-old boy was also killed in the incident, while the 14-year-old rider of the trail-type bike remains in a stable condition in hospital.

An investigation has been launched into the crash, which involved four cars.

Officers have now established that the bike and its riders were caught on video before the collision after a clip was circulated on social media.

They are keen to trace the source and anyone with additional information.

The two teenagers who died were passengers on the bike, which was a Sur-Ron Light Bee X.

Sgt Iain Nicholson said: "Our extensive inquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing and we are particularly keen to hear from anyone with information on a video which appears to show the e-bike and its riders at an earlier time.

"We understand that this has been an extremely traumatic incident not only to the families and friends of those involved, but also the wider community."

The officer also asked people who wished to pay tribute to leave flowers at a nearby cycle path and to park sensibly.

"People will rightly want to pay tribute and we respectfully ask anyone visiting the site to please park sensibly and away from the junction for everyone's safety, or alternatively reach the area via the cycle path."

'Very much missed'

On Tuesday Marcus's family said they were in shock following his death and added that he would be "very much missed".

"Marcus was a young man who loved going out and about with his mates," a statement released through Police Scotland read.

"He will be missed so very much by all of his family and his friends.

"We cannot begin to explain what a shock this has been for everyone and we would like time to be able to come to terms with what has happened."

The road was closed for more than 12 hours while an initial investigation into the crash took place.

The incident happened around 20:00 and involved the bike, a blue Vauxhall Mokka, a red Renault Clio, a black Vauxhall Corsa and a white VW Golf.

A 54-year-old man driving the Mokka was taken to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin for treatment and later released.

No-one else was hurt in the incident.

The road was reopened on Tuesday morning at about 11:00.

Officers asked anyone who saw the incident or had dashcam footage from the area to come forward, external.
