Internet web hosting firm, Iomart, has bought the Liverpool-based Switch Media for £1.25m.

Switch Media supplies domain name and shared hosting services to small businesses, operating in a similar market to Iomart's Easyspace division.

The company has more than 10,000 customers providing a base from which the Glasgow-based Iomart can expand its small company hosting business.

For the year to 31 December 2010, Switch Media had a turnover of £1.3m.

Angus MacSween, CEO of Iomart Group plc, said: "The acquisition of Switch Media is a further step in the achievement of Iomart's strategy of building a leading hosting company in the UK."

This is the second purchase made by the Iomart Group in the past six months. In November the company bought Titan Internet, for £4.2m.
