Scottish Power apprenticeship applications reach 1,000

Scottish Power said there had been "unprecedented" interest in its apprenticeships after it received 1,000 application for 25 posts in a week.

The roles are being made available in the Energy Networks section of its business.

Applications for the apprenticeship programme in Scotland closed on Friday.

Frank Mitchell, CEO of Scottish Power Energy Networks, said the response showed that demand for such posts remained "higher than ever".

"We had real concerns that younger generations were not interested in this type of career anymore and are heartened by the level of response," he said.

"We will be considering all the applications we have received and look forward to helping the development of the engineers of tomorrow."
