The American owner of ClydeUnion Pumps has announced plans to shed about 90 jobs from the firm's plant in Glasgow.

North Carolina-based industrial equipment firm SPX said the move was part of a restructuring process involving up to 100 job losses globally.

Over the next 30 days, SPX will consult with unions on redundancies at ClydeUnion's Cathcart facility.

A total of 980 staff are currently employed at the engineering plant.

SPX bought the pumping solutions business from Scottish engineering entrepreneur Jim McColl in 2011 for £750m.

ClydeUnion was formed in 2007 through the acquisition and integration of several pump manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic.
