Power firm Aggreko ups investment plans by £50m

Aggreko's factory in Dumbarton makes generators for the company's global operations

Temporary power firm Aggreko has predicted sales in the first half of the year will grow by 15%.

The Glasgow based group said on the back of that it will increase investment by £50m to £415m.

The company provides generators to cover electricity shortfalls or power live events.

It warned growth would be hit by the "weakening macro-economic environment" although that would be offset by the contract to power the London Olympics.

In a trading statement, the company revealed a new contract to provide 75 MW to the Japanese utility company Hokkaido Electric Power Company (HEPCO).

Aggreko employs more than 4,500 people operating from 165 locations.

Recent customers include the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and power utilities in more than 50 countries including Angola and Kenya.
