Grangemouth refinery's diesel production hit by glitch

The company said there was a reduction in the amount of diesel available for collection from the Grangemouth refinery last week

Diesel production at the Petroineos refinery in Grangemouth was hit last week because of a technical problem, the BBC has learned.

One of 15 production units at the plant had to be completely shut down, cutting diesel production by 30%.

A storage tank was used to continue selling fuel.

Refinery operators Petroineos said there was a reduction in the amount of diesel available for collection from the refinery.

But it added that the unit was now back in operation and supplies were returning to normal.

Petroineos is a joint venture between Ineos and PetroChina International (London) Company which was formed in 2011.

The impact of activities at the Grangemouth plant are felt throughout the Scottish economy.

A lengthy shutdown at the site at the end of last year following an industrial dispute is estimated to have cut Scotland's overall growth figures by 0.2%.
