Accor to open three more hotels in Scotland

Accor has signed a deal to open a new Mercure hotel in Edinburgh as part of its growth plans

French-owned hotel operator Accor has announced plans to open three more hotels in Scotland.

Accor, which owns the Mercure, Novotel and Ibis brands, will open two new hotels in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow.

The new openings will bring the group's portfolio in Scotland to 21.

Accor said the latest expansion demonstrated its commitment to growing its business in Scotland, where the hotel operator currently employs nearly 1,000 people.

In Glasgow, Accor has signed a franchise agreement with MCTH Trading to open an Ibis Styles in the current Telfer House, which is undergoing extensive refurbishment.

This will be the city's first Ibis Styles, which will be managed and operated by Glasgow-based hotel management company Redefine/BDL Hotels. It will take on a new team to operate the 101-room, eight-storey hotel, creating 25 jobs next year.

In Edinburgh, Accor has signed a deal to open a new Mercure hotel in Gardner's Crescent. The 110-room, midscale hotel will be opened with franchise partner Edinburgh City Hotels early next year.

The company also has plans to open an Adagio aparthotel as part of the city's New Waverley development.
