Stewart Hosie suffered a transient ischaemic attack on Monday

The senior SNP MP Stewart Hosie is recovering after being treated in hospital for a "mini-stroke", the party has confirmed.

The Dundee East MP, who was admitted to Dundee's Ninewells Hospital on Monday afternoon, is expected to make a complete recovery.

Mr Hosie, 49, praised the "high level of professional care" he received after suffering a transient ischaemic attack.

The MP, who is the SNP Treasury spokesman, was discharged on Wednesday.

A transient ischaemic attack is caused by a temporary disruption in the blood supply to part of the brain.

Mr Hosie, also deputy leader of the SNP group at Westminster, praised the high level care he had received and thanked hospital staff.

The MP is married to Scottish government sport minister Shona Robison.

Ms Robison said: "Stewart was discharged from Ninewells earlier this evening, and is now back home with his family - we are deeply grateful to the hospital staff, and touched by the good wishes from people right across the political spectrum and from many other walks of life."
