The Scottish government is in talks which could see a film studio set up in Scotland to take advantage of recent tax breaks for the creative industry.
The Culture Secretary, Fiona Hyslop, told MSPs that Scottish Enterprise, Creative Scotland and the British Film Commission were discussing the matter.
In April, Chancellor George Osborne announced new tax relief for the creative industries.
Ms Hyslop said the move would afford Scotland a great opportunity.
She made her announcement in response to a question in Holyrood from Scottish Labour's culture spokeswoman, Patricia Ferguson.
The MSP wanted to know what recent action the Scottish government had taken to support the Scottish film and TV industry.
Ms Hyslop said: "What we do need is a film studio, particularly with a very effective sound studio as part of that complex.
"We are in active discussions with a range of organisations which I hope will give an opportunity for positive news in this area at some point in the future."
Ms Hyslop said the tax changes would create job opportunities and the potential for television series production.
