First Scottish Borders 3G pitch works under way

Work has officially started on the installation of the first 3G sports pitch, in Galashiels.

By November, the surface at Gala Fairydean's Netherdale ground will meet both FIFA and International Rugby Board criteria for artificial pitches.

Scottish Borders Council leader David Parker said he was optimistic pitches could go to other parts of the region.

Some £350,000 for the Galashiels scheme came from the Scottish government's Cashback for Communities project.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said that funding source could be used again for similar developments as long as the application criteria were met.
