Dumfries Infirmary parking problem crackdown planned

Action is to be taken to tackle drivers who flout parking restrictions on routes into Dumfries Infirmary.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway said it was a problem that needed to be addressed to ensure clear access to departments such as accident and emergency.

The service roads already have double yellow lines but the restrictions are currently unenforceable.

The health board is seeking a traffic regulation order to allow it to take action over any infringements.

The issue was the focus of traffic management recommendations made following a fatal accident at another hospital site in Scotland.

A regulation order for roads within the grounds of Dumfries Infirmary is now poised to be introduced following a period of consultation.

It will allow parking restrictions on the site to be fully enforced.

Councillors will this week be asked to agree to implement the order.

All of the costs involved will be covered by NHS Dumfries and Galloway.
