Cainryan children's unit inquiry discussed

  • Published

Councillors are set to decide if there should be an independent inquiry into a childcare unit near Stranraer.

Cairnryan House was purchased by Dumfries and Galloway Council to replace the old Milton House facility which had been deemed unsuitable.

However, the new unit has met with opposition by some residents.

They are concerned about the suitability of the village location and also question the consultation before the decision was made.

Councillors will now decide whether or not to withdraw responsibility for the project from the social work services committee.

It would allow an independently chaired inquiry into how the decision was reached to provide a children's home at Cairnryan.
