Dumfries and Galloway and Borders council coalition talks

Councillors in Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders are continuing talks to try to form ruling coalitions on both local authorities.

No single party emerged with an outright majority in either region.

In the Borders, the Conservatives took most seats but there was increased support for the SNP and independents.

Labour now has most councillors in Dumfries and Galloway but will need to secure the backing of other groups in order to produce a working majority.

It is possible Scottish Borders Council could reform the same ruling group of Conservatives, Lib Dems and independents as formed the previous administration.

However, other potential combinations remain viable.

In Dumfries and Galloway all the political groups have said they are willing to negotiate in order to form an administration.
