Mull of Galloway buyout moves forward

The Mull of Galloway Trust has formally confirmed its interest in buying the land in the area

Plans for a community buyout of the most southerly piece of land in Scotland have taken a step forward.

A local trust has formally confirmed its interest in the Mull of Galloway to the Scottish government.

The Northern Lighthouse Board is selling off the 30-acre site - apart from its working lighthouse.

The Mull of Galloway Trust has said it wants to preserve the area as "a place of beauty" and "a place of tranquillity" for locals and visitors.

It wants to secure the site to oversee its development and conservation and avoid any possibility of commercial exploitation of "Scotland's Land's End".

The buyout is also supported by Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce, which is aware of the area's role in attracting tourists.

The asking price is expected to be about £340,000, which the trust hopes to get from the Scottish Land Fund.
