Primal Scream have been unveiled as a headline act at this year's Wickerman Festival in south west Scotland.

The Scots rockers will take to the stage on 26 July, the opening day of the 12th edition of the event at East Kirkcarswell Farm near Kirkcudbright.

Festival co-ordinator Helen Chalmers said they were one of Britain's "most iconic, inventive and exciting bands".

The two-day event will come to a close on 27 July with the traditional burning of a giant Wickerman figure.

Ms Chalmers said securing Primal Scream was a "major coup" for the festival and its fans.

It will be the band's only Scottish festival appearance of the year.

They are expected to give a debut to some material from their new album - their first in five years - alongside older classic tracks.

Also joining the festival's line-up this year will be critically-acclaimed duo Public Service Broadcasting.
