A controlled explosion has been carried out after a wartime mortar bomb was found by a walker on a hillside in the Scottish Borders.

The discovery was made near the village of Minto - between Hawick and Jedburgh - around lunchtime on Monday.

Bomb disposal teams were called to the scene and carried out a controlled explosion of the device.

Police said the location of the discovery was remote and there had been no danger to the public.
