Galashiels waste energy plant gains approval

  • Published

Planning approval has been given for a plant which would produce electricity from waste near Galashiels.

Scottish Borders Council had been recommended to give the go-ahead to the project at Easter Langlee.

New Earth Solutions Limited wants to build the facility which would provide jobs for about 30 staff.

There had been concerns about its 23m (75ft) high chimney but planning officers said it would be in keeping with a "semi-industrialised" area.

The plant would turn municipal waste into fuel.

It was originally proposed that this would be exported but it will now be used on-site to produce electricity and heat.
