The Tour of Britain got off to a damp start at the weekend with heavy rain greeting competitors as they left Peebles.

Spectators in the Borders braved unfavourable conditions to get a glimpse of the cyclists as they set off on stage one.

Sir Bradley Wiggins was one of the competitors fans were most keen to see in action.

Rising star Nairo Quintana found conditions in Peebles a little different to those of his native Colombia.

The stage finished in better conditions in the historic surroundings of Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway.

The stage victory went to Italian rider Elia Viviani who also took the overall leader's jersey.

A crash in the closing stages of the event meant some riders crossed the line in less than perfect condition.

Autograph hunters swamped Sir Bradley Wiggins as he made his way out of Dumfries and Galloway towards the next stage of the race.
