Stranraer former ferry terminal site sale examined

The ferry terminal site has been vacant since Stena Line moved its operations to Cairnryan

Plans are being drawn up to sell off Stranraer's former ferry terminal site as part of town regeneration moves.

The project is a joint venture between Dumfries and Galloway Council and Stena Line UK.

The site at the East Pier has been vacant since Stena moved its Irish Sea operation to a new £200m facility at Cairnryan two years ago.

A marketing strategy will be developed between the local authority and the company.

The process to find a private developer for the site is due to get underway in the new year.

Meanwhile, the council is awaiting the outcome of its bid for £200,000 of European funding to support the development of marina and community projects - as part of the Stranraer regeneration.

If successful, it would take the amount still to be allocated to £489,000.

Among the projects on the table are the provision of a mobile stage for major events in the town and improvements to Agnew Park.
