Borders speed camera burners strike again

Police in the Borders have appealed for witnesses after a safety camera was set alight in at least the 20th such incident in the past decade.

The latest attack took place at about 01:45 on the A68.

The camera positioned at Hiltonshill St Boswells was set on fire resulting in "significant damage".

Speed cameras have regularly been set alight in the region, and were also subjected to a spate of attacks with a saw earlier this year.

Insp Carol Wood said: "Once again a safety camera, which is a vital tool in keeping our roadways safe, has been targeted in an act of reckless and culpable behaviour.

"Any motorists who were on the A68 in the early hours of Friday morning and remember seeing anything suspicious are asked to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone with information that can help trace those responsible for this incident is also asked to get in touch."
