Big Burns Supper: Nina Nesbitt added to line-up

Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt has joined the line-up for the Big Burns Supper in Dumfries in January.

The full programme for the event was launched in front of the Burns statue on Leith's Constitution Street.

The Peatbog Faeries were also announced as joining Hue and Cry, The Undertones, The Vaselines, Skerryvore and Craig Hill on the bill.

The fourth edition of the event will run over nine days from 23 to 31 January.

Organisers said the programme launch in Edinburgh showed the festival was attracting people from outside south west Scotland.

Artistic Director Graham Main said: "Big Burns Supper 2015 will be Europe's largest winter fringe festival.

"It's becoming a major event in the Scottish calendar and we're inviting even more people from across Scotland and beyond to join us for nine days of fabulous entertainment.

"The programme we've unveiled today is a rich mix of music and performance that combines popular and celebrated artists with some emerging talent from all over Scotland and the rest of the UK."

Nina Nesbitt, who released her first album Peroxide this year, said she was looking forward to performing in Dumfries.

"I've always admired Robert Burns, not just for his poetry but for his whole amazing passion for life," she said.

"It's going to be great to play at a festival that's such a huge celebration of Scottish life and culture and is all about bringing people of every age group together to share a really great time."

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said the festival encouraged Scots and "Scots at heart" to celebrate the national bard.

"It is fantastic to see the vibrant Big Burns Supper treble from three days to nine," she said.

"Its great range and selection of performances and events, from renowned musicians to the lively street carnival, will light up Dumfries."
