Four dark sky park rangers are to be recruited to develop stargazing events in Galloway.

Forestry Commission Scotland want to employ freelance staff who can promote the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park to visitors and businesses.

Spokesman Keith Muir said applicants did not need any knowledge of astronomy as training would be given.

He said: "We are looking for are people who can communicate, people who can capture the attention of an audience."

Successful candidates will be trained to identify constellations and light pollution over the next few months, ahead of the next observing season which starts in October.

The Galloway Forest Park was the first dark sky park in the UK.
