Police handling of Dumfries body find investigated

An independent investigation is to be carried out into the police's handling of the discovery of a 52-year-old woman's body in a property in Dumfries.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is looking at the incident at a "residential address" on Saturday.
A spokesman said it had been instructed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to investigate.
He said it would focus on the police response following a report of concern for the woman's welfare.
"A report on the commissioner's findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course," he added.
'Not suspicious'
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams said Police Scotland's thoughts were with the woman's family at a "difficult time".
"Local officers discovered the body of a 52-year-old woman at a house in Dumfries in the early hours of Saturday, 20 February 2016," he said.
"Police Scotland and the Crown Office have referred the incident to PIRC and there is now a live investigation under way.
"As such, we are limited in what we can say at this time.
"A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however, at this time it is not being treated as suspicious."
