Thousands of music fans congregated at the Electric Fields festival in the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle at the weekend.

More than 90 acts performed over the extended two-day event near Thornhill.

The Charlatans and Primal Scream headlined the festival this year.

Fans were treated to some summer sunshine during Saturday

Organisers said they had tried to ensure a "happy balance" between bands with commercial clout and more "underground" acts.

About 5,000 fans were expected across the Friday and Saturday.

The growing reputation of the event has been credited with helping it to attract performers who previously might have been considered out of reach.

The third edition of the south of Scotland event earned plaudits from critics.

Organisers said they were satisfied that the festival had managed to retain its atmosphere despite the increase in size.

Drumlanrig Castle provided a dramatic backdrop to the festival once again this year.
