Woman dies in hospital after being hit by car in Dumfries

Nicola Kirk, 45, died from her injuries in Dumfries Royal Infirmary
A woman has died in hospital after being struck by a car near Dumfries town centre.
Nicola Kirk, 45, was taken to Dumfries Infirmary after the incident in Whitesands at about 20:15 on Wednesday.
A 26-year-old woman was also hit by the vehicle but did not sustain any serious injuries.
Police said a 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He will appear before Dumfries Sheriff Court on Friday.

Det Insp Dean Little said: "Our thoughts are with the woman's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
"We continue to appeal to anyone with information or dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation."
