City launches Scottish food fest

Sales of Scottish food brands have increased by 30%, the rural affairs secretary said
A two-week celebration showcasing the "best of Scotland's larder" has been launched in Dundee.
Dozens of events across the country will be held to mark Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight, beginning with the city's Flower and Food Festival.
Scottish Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead said the fortnight would give people the opportunity to discover new tastes and meet producers.
Events in Dundee include the National Vegetable Society's championships.
Mr Lochhead said: "This is Scotland's year of food and drink, with a focus on celebrating and enhancing our reputation as a land of food and drink.
"In its first ever worldwide study, the International Culinary Tourism Association recently declared Scotland as one of the most 'unique, memorable and interesting places' for food and drink on the planet."
'Riot of colour'
The minister said retail sales of Scottish brands across the UK had increased by 30% over the past three years, despite the economic downturn.
The Dundee Flower and Food Festival will be held at Camperdown Country Park.
Dundee City Council leisure convener Bob Duncan said the festival would provide a "riot of colour".
"There is something for everyone with the festival designed to appeal to all the family.
"People can savour the flavours of food demonstrations and pick up some cooking tips from some of the best in the business," he said.
