Tayside flood warnings after night of rain

The flood warnings come after a further night of heavy rain

More than 20 flood warnings are in place across Tayside following heavy rain overnight.

Levels on the River Earn and River Tay are reported to be particularly high and residents in Bridge of Earn have been warned to "remain vigilant".

The B846 between Aberfeldy and Weem in Perthshire was closed after the River Tay burst its banks.

But Tayside Police said they were not aware of any other road closures in the region or damage to property.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) said river levels had risen after falling throughout Wednesday.

"As river levels are generally high throughout the region, there is potential for localised flooding in low lying areas," a statement from the Agency said.

"River levels on the Earn and Tay, including their tributaries, are currently very high and despite levels falling during Wednesday, they are responding to rain in the region and will continue to do so into Thursday morning.

"Low lying agricultural land throughout the region is also at risk."

Icy conditions

Flood warnings are also in place on the River Tummel and River Isla.

Central Scotland Police said the only road affected in their area was the road from Benview to Tillicoultry in Clackmannanshire.

But the force has warned of icy conditions on the roads on Friday morning as the temperature drops.

Ch Insp Donald McMillan said: "We have had a prolonged period of rain and damp conditions.

"The temperatures are expected to fall below freezing tonight which could make roads icy particularly in sheltered areas."

Elsewhere in Scotland, a landslide has closed the A83 in both directions at the Rest and Be Thankful, west of Loch Lomond.

And flood warnings are in place across many areas of the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.
