Dundee Courier makes move to compact

The first edition of the compact Courier will be published on Saturday

The Dundee Courier has announced the newspaper will be relaunching as a compact later this week.

Editor Richard Neville said a "brighter, bolder" paper would appear from Saturday, shrunk from broadsheet to tabloid size.

The move follows relaunches by the Aberdeen Press and Journal and the Falkirk Herald, which have both gone compact in recent months.

Mr Neville said the change had been driven by the paper's readers.

The Courier was first established in 1801 and is published by DC Thomson. It is now one of the biggest regional morning newspapers in the UK.

In a column published on Monday, Mr Neville said the redesigned paper would have full colour on every page and would be packed with new content.

He said: "Saturday is a new dawn for The Courier. In these challenging times for newspapers it represents a significant investment in a title that is second to none at serving its community and one that is produced with the highest standards of integrity.

"The future for your newspaper is very bright indeed."

Mr Neville added that The Courier would now be a more "manageable and user-friendly size".
