New hotel to create 120 jobs on Dundee's waterfront

Malmaison plans to open a new 91 bedroom hotel on Dundee's waterfront.

The new hotel is being created on the site of the old Tay Hotel, a listed city centre building on Dock Street.

The redevelopment will start in spring 2012 with completion expected in May 2013, at which point it is expected to create 120 new jobs.

MWB Group Holdings Plc, which owns the hotel chain, has leased the site for 35 years with an option to extend this for a further 35 years.

The hotel is part of the Dundee waterfront project, which encompasses 240 hectares of development land stretching 8km along the River Tay.

First Minister Alex Salmond said: "Dundee is increasingly attractive to new investment and visitors.

"The announcement demonstrates confidence in the local economy and will bring new jobs to the city."
