Research work starts on A9 upgrade

Preparatory work has started that will help to pave the way for a section of the A9 in Perthshire to be upgraded to dual carriageway.

Environmental Scientifics Group Ltd is expected to spend 20 weeks investigating the ground required to widen the road.

Construction of the dual carriageway between Luncarty to Pass of Birnam is due to start in 2017.

The project forms part of wider plans to dual the A9 from Inverness to Perth.

The upgrade of another section of the A9 - from Kincraig to Dalraddy in the Highlands - is expected to start in 2015/16.

The full dual carriageway project is not expected to be completed until 2025.
