Princess Anne joins Stirling's Armed Forces Day event

Princess Anne holds positions in both the Army and Navy

Princess Anne is to take part in the Armed Forces Day celebrations in Stirling.

The Princess Royal will take the salute as a parade of services personnel, veterans and cadets march from Stirling Castle to the events grounds nearby.

The day-long event includes a display of vintage and current military vehicles, pipe bands, a parade of 1,200 personnel and a show by the Red Arrows.

Stirling will lead Armed Forces Day celebrations around the UK on 28 June.

Princess Anne is Admiral and Chief Commandant for women in the Royal Navy, as well as Royal Colonel of the Royal Scots Borderers, the 1st Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, which will be represented in the parade.

Stirling Provost Mike Robbins said he was "absolutely delighted" to welcome Her Royal Highness to the event.

He added: "Our event will honour the UK's armed forces, and recognise their outstanding contribution to the defence of this great nation.

"It will also reflect the uniqueness of Stirling in terms of its surroundings, history, as a modern contemporary location and its recognised links to the Armed Forces."
