Tayside Aviation awarded £1.5m deal to train RAF cadets

Tayside Aviation has a full flight simulator as well as 18 aircraft and 12 full-time instructors

The Ministry of Defence has awarded a £1.5m contract to train its next generation of pilots to a Dundee flight school.

The Royal Air Force contract will see 750 cadets train with Tayside Aviation in Dundee over five years.

Many of those training on the Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship programme go on to become pilots or officers in the RAF or Royal Navy.

More than 5,000 RAF cadets have been trained in Dundee since 1994.

Tayside Aviation has trained 900 pilots for major airlines since launching in 1968, and has also trained Army Air Corps pilots on fixed-wing aircraft.

The school has 18 planes, 12 full-time instructors and a state-of-the-art flight simulator.

Managing director Jim Watt said the contract was "great for Scotland and for Dundee".
