Two men injured in River Tay jet-ski crash near Perth

The jet skis collided near the railway bridge over the Tay at Moncrieffe Island

Two men were injured in a jet ski crash on the River Tay near Perth on Sunday.

Paramedics and a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service water rescue team went to the aid of the men following the collision near Moncrieffe Island.

One of the men, who suffered broken bones, had to be taken back to shore by boat, while the other managed to climb onto the railway bridge and walk to safety.

The man with more serious injuries was taken to Ninewells Hospital.

A fire appliance from Coupar Angus and one from Dunkeld were sent to the scene, along with the specialist water rescue team from Perth.

Watch manager Mike Rumgay said: "One of the casualties was able to make it up to the bridge.

"We assessed the other casualty's injuries and decided that for his own comfort it would be best to deploy the rib and take him back to shore in the boat.

"We administered oxygen and first aid to the injured man and a paramedic accompanied us and the casualty in the boat.

"Once we got him back to shore we placed him in the care of paramedics and he was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment."
