Thousands of costumed cartoon characters are expected at "Dundee's annual geek-off" in the city in April.

This year's DeeCon anime, animation and art convention includes talks by former Disney FX animators and retro videogames tournaments.

The event will be held at Dundee University Students' Union (Dusa) on Saturday, 8 April.

Proceeds will go to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design's animation degree show.

Festival goers traditionally wear a range of outfits, including superhero costumes and other characters from comics and films.

Organising committee member Margaret McCabe said: "Dundee is the perfect place to be a geek and DeeCon is not short of attractions for the whole family to get into.

"This year we have invited major industry guests and we can't wait to see what they reveal to our fans.

"We are looking forward to bringing everyone together, where they can share their work, meet like-minded people and enjoy a fun-filled day."
