Nurse admits £14,500 benefit fraud

Dundee Sheriff Court was told that all the money had been repaid

A nurse fraudulently claimed £14,500 in benefits by claiming she was a single parent, a court was told.

Lisa Durdu claimed working tax credit and child tax credit for 17 months while living with Yilmaz Durdu in Dundee.

Dundee Sheriff Court was told that the 34-year-old had repaid the money.

Durdu had her sentence deferred for background reports after admitting a charge under the Tax Credits Act.

The court was told the offences took place between June 2012 and November 2013.

Defence solicitor Laura O'Brien said: "She pled guilty to obtaining £14,500 but has in fact paid back £15,000.

"She has overpaid the amount she pled guilty to.

"There may be other consequences with her employer as a result."

Sheriff Richard McFarlane said: "I can't get away from the fact that a significant amount of money was unlawfully obtained.

"There are guidelines when it comes to the question of sentence in these cases."
