Boy dies in hospital after River Tay rescue

Kayden was airlifted to hospital but died two days later

A 12-year-old boy has died in hospital, two days after being pulled out of a river in Perthshire.

The boy got into difficulties in the River Tay at Stanley, north of Perth, on Sunday afternoon.

Named locally as Kayden Walker, from Glasgow, he is reported to have been "boogie boarding" on the river while on holiday.

Family members and friends have posted many tributes to the youngster on social media.

The Coastguard helicopter was called out at about 13:40 and took the boy initially to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

'Absolute nightmare'

Police Scotland said he died in the early hours of Tuesday morning and inquiries into the incident were continuing.

A police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very tragic time."

In an emotional post on Facebook his elder brother, Kai Thomson, described the last two nights as an "absolute nightmare".

He continued: "I love you wee man with all my heart. Until we meet again x"

Kayden's cousin, Brogan O'Connor, posted that he was "absolutely heartbroken".

He added: "A wee boy with his full life ahead of him taken too soon in a freak accident as he was enjoying his summer holidays - our family will never be the same."
