Stirling to host Summer Sessions for first time in 2024

The city will celebrate its 900th anniversary as a Royal Burgh in 2024

Stirling has been named as a host city for the Summer Sessions Festival in 2024.

DF Concerts announced it would bring the long-running Scottish music series to the foot of Stirling Castle.

The festival began in Glasgow in 2013 and has previously hosted bands such as Simple Minds and The Cure.

Stirling will be celebrating its 900th anniversary next year, which council leader Chris Kane said was "hugely exciting and fitting".

Expanding to Edinburgh in 2018, the event has become a much-loved and highly anticipated live music series in Scotland.

DF Concerts also runs the TRNSMT and Connect festivals.

It also owns and operates King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, known for supporting new musicians.

Stirling will join Edinburgh and Glasgow as the hosts of Summer Sessions in Scotland, while more cities will welcome Summer Sessions across England and Wales.

The likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Hozier and Nile Rodgers and CHIC have been announced to play at different Summer Sessions events next year.

Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts said the event had gone from "strength to strength" and Stirling Summer Sessions would be a "very welcome addition".

"Stirling City Park is a very unique event space, sitting in the dramatic shadow of Stirling Castle and we cannot wait to bring some world-class acts to the city as it celebrates its 900th anniversary," he said.

Councillor Kane said: "Next year is the Burgh of Stirling's 900th anniversary so it's hugely exciting and fitting for us to host the Summer Sessions for the first time as we celebrate this major milestone.

"With its stunning backdrop of Stirling Castle and accessible location near the city centre, Stirling City Park will be a superb venue for the Summer Sessions, as it has been for previous large-scale concerts and events.

"We can't wait to welcome music fans from across the country for this major festival and to showcase everything Stirling has to offer."
