A 38-year-old man has been jailed for 19 years for killing his father in Perth.

Craig Nixon pled guilty to the murder of Ian Menzies, 55, at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was accused of striking him on the head and body with a hammer or similar weapon.

Mr Menzies died in June 2021 at his home on Scott street, Perth. Nixon was later arrested in London.

Prosecutors said that he disposed of the hammer, changed clothes, then travelled to London to conceal or destroy evidence.

Police Scotland Det Insp Craig Ross thanked the public and the officers who worked to "ensure Craig Nixon was held to account for his violent actions".

"Our thoughts remain with Ian's family and friends who have been devastated by his tragic death," he said.

"This has been such a difficult time for them and they have shown great strength and dignity. I hope that his conviction brings them some comfort."
