Man who raped intoxicated woman in Perth jailed

A Perth man who preyed on an intoxicated woman and subjected her to a serious sexual assault has been jailed for seven years.

Derek Rodgers raped the woman in the city in 2013. 

A trial heard that the 33-year-old continued to assault the woman after she woke up.

He was finally caught after the woman contacted the police in 2021 and was found guilty by a jury in December last year.

Rodgers was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and told he would be supervised for two years following his release from custody.

The court was told he had previous convictions for breach of the peace and assault.
