Lesotho's queen to visit Maelor school, Wrexham

Queen Masenate Seeiso is touring Wales for the 25th anniversary of the charity Dolen Cymru

Lesotho's queen is to visit a Wrexham school twinned with one in her nation as part of a tour of Wales.

Queen Masenate Seeiso is in Wales as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of a charity which fosters links between the two countries.

She will visit the Maelor School in Penley, which is partnered with a school in north Lesotho. All 790 pupils are hoping to greet her outside.

She will also be at a reception at the Guildhall hosted by mayor Jim Kelly.

The Maelor school is twinned with St Saviour's High School, Leribe, Lesotho.

Next week students and staff from the school in Lesotho will be travelling to spend a week at the Welsh secondary school before a reciprocal exchange next year.

The queen has already visited Gwynedd.

Later this week, she will meet First Minister Carwyn Jones and Welsh assembly Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas at the Senedd in Cardiff.

The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of Dolen Cymru, which promotes friendship and understanding between Wales and the south African kingdom.

Since 2005, more than 70 teachers from Wales have had placements in Lesotho.
