Mobile phone glow key to Snowdonia mountain rescue

The glow of a mobile phone led to mountain rescue team members finding a father and son lost at night in Snowdonia after they rang for help.

The pair, 55 and 19, from near Llangefni on Anglesey, had left their torches in the car when they headed for Idwal Slabs.

They did not being their walk until 1500 GMT on Saturday and later could not find the path down.

Eighteen Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation members were involved.

After they spotted the glow of the mobile phone, one team member was lowered to the two men and they were helped up to the path with the use of a safety rope.

A spokesman said: "Two males attempted to climb Ordinary Route on the Idwal Slabs but unfortunately started rather late in the day.

"On the walk off in the dark they realised they had forgotten their torches so were unable to go up or down.

"The team climbed down to them, roped them up the walk off and then walked with them back to the road."
