Thieves strip lead from Cardiff church porch

Thieves stripped lead off the roof of a church porch in Cardiff, but managed to leave some behind.

Father Dean Atkins of St Saviours Church on Splott Road discovered the lead rolled up on a church path on Sunday morning.

He said thieves had stripped the porch roof, but it was unclear how much had been stolen.

South Wales Police said they had been informed of an attempted theft at 120-year-old St Saviours.

Father Atkins said: "They stripped the roof of the lead and left some on the church path. I am presuming they were disturbed. I could not pick up the lead myself."

Father Atkins said the church was also targeted by lead thieves about three years ago.
