Wales' new children's poet laureate has been announced at a special ceremony at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Swansea.

Eurig Salisbury, from Aberystwyth, succeeds actor Dewi Pws Morris and will hold the post for two years.

Salisbury has published a collection of children's poetry and a book of poems called Llyfr Glas Eurig (Eurig's Blue Book).

The Cardiff-born is a research fellow at Aberystwyth University.

Salisbury's family moved to Llangynog, near Carmarthen, when he was six.

He was educated at Ysgol Gynradd Melin Gruffudd in Cardiff and Ysgol Gynradd y Dderwen and Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin in Carmarthen, before studying Welsh and film and television studies at Aberystwyth University.

He said: "It's a great honour to be asked to work with Wales' small poets.

"I was a small poet myself once, even though I didn't realise at the time, and I used to really enjoy reading silly poems.

"To be honest, the poems I most remember are those of my predecessor. Dewi Pws's poems are full of fun, and my aim is to make sure that Wales' children have the same amount of fun with me over the next two years."
