Bury Inlet cockle deaths report is delayed

A study into why large numbers of cockles died in the Burry Inlet in Carmarthenshire in 2008 has been delayed.
The Hull University report was due this month but must now include recent findings.
However, the Environment Agency said it would ensure the report, due in the summer, will provide 'clarity' on the reasons for the deaths.
The study is funded by the Welsh Government.
In May it was reported that the Environment Agency is still monitoring cockle deaths in the Burry Inlet.
Scientists working on behalf of the agency found a small quantity of cockles experiencing difficulties with re-burying themselves.
It is usually a sign associated with the start of mortality and the amount of cockles and their density are being assessed.
Thousands of tons of cockles have died in the Burry Inlet in recent years.
