First Hydro power firm relocating 40 Flintshire jobs

A company which runs two hydro-electric power stations in Snowdonia is closing its energy management centre in Flintshire.

The 40 workers based at International Power's offices at Ewloe will be offered the chance to relocate.

The company holds the controlling stake in First Hydro which runs the plants at Dinorwic and Ffestiniog.

Staff at the Ewloe centre are involved in selling electricity produced by the power stations.

A company spokesperson confirmed it was planning to close its Bala House office in Deeside within two years.

"A consultation process is underway with the 40 employees based there and we are aiming to relocate the roles to either London or other bases in Wales," he said.

A source had earlier told BBC Wales that consultations with staff were underway and workers were being offered relocation to the power stations in Gwynedd or to London.

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami has said he is concerned about the loss of jobs to the area and has written to International Power expressing concern.
