Floods hit homes and roads in Pembrokeshire

Firefighters are pumping flood water from houses in Pembrokeshire due to flash floods.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was dealing incidents in Pembroke Dock, Freshwater East, Carew and Canaston Bridge.

Police say sections of the A4075 at Pembroke and A4115 near Templeton have been closed due to surface water.

The emergency services said they started to receive calls around 06:30 GMT following heavy rain overnight.

The fire service said it had been called to deal with around six separate incidents of properties flooding.

Sand bags

Dyfed-Powys Police said the A4075 at Pembroke was shut after a number of vehicles became stuck.

The A4115 between Templeton and Cross Hands was also closed for safety reasons.

Pembrokeshire council said it had received a number of calls from people requesting sand bags.

It said flooding was now easing and situation was improving.

BBC Wales weather presenter Sue Charles said the persistence of the rain has been a problem.

"It started Sunday afternoon and has continued through the night and this morning in parts of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire," she said.

"Rainfall totals have reached 10mm (just under half an inch) in just a few hours at our weather station at Pembrey Sands".
